Match report – Festival 1 – Sunday 3rd November

We all arrived at Yately in high spirits. Having driven through wind and rain and very grey skies, on arrival, the sun was shining. A perfect day for rugby. Better still, our newest member of the team, had brought a tent – a first for the under 10’s – a huge thanks to Richard. We all appreciated the tent enormously and look forward to seeing it again soon. We will try and reserve you a parking space closer to the pitch next time!
Tadley Yellow v. Fordingbridge 0 – 6
We got off to a flying start and the Tadley Yellows didn’t stand a chance. It was one try after another, Ben Potter, James Cook, Gaby and Luc all scored. It was a good way to begin but we were slightly lulled into a false sense of security – the Yellows were Tadley’s B team – we were about to face the A team!
Tadley Black v. Fordingbridge 3 - 0 Tadley got their own back in the first half of this match scoring 3 tries fairly quickly. They were a big, slick team and were definitely the pick of the bunch. Our team did very well defending and tackling and after a talking to from TK at half time, they didn’t concede any more tries. Max did some great runs, and Jack Wells some more ferocious tackling.
New Milton v. Fordingbridge 5 – 1
Again, another very slick team, also there were a few very tall, strong players. There were plenty of heroic tackles from the Fordingbridge team and Finley definitely looks like he has been playing for years. Ben scored another great try. Archie had a great couple of tackles, Luc had such a close try, and James Cook, terrier like as always, went for every ball and tackled every member of the opposition.
Farnborough v. Fordingbridge 2 – 1
This should have been ours! Again, heroic play all round, just a couple of very strong players, who ran away with the ball a couple of times. Jack P scored a great try. Hayden 2 is a great addition to the team notwithstanding his inexperience and shows real potential. Well played.
It was great to see Hubert, the team have been missing him. We also loved seeing the Burn Out Bike Chapter and look forward to riding with them again at the next festival! All parents and friends were a great support to the team and thanks all for making the journey – it makes a huge difference.
As coordinator, I feel that I have plenty of co-coordinators to make my job much easier – big thanks especially to Mike and Louise, and the Austins with their tent – we make a good team.
Look forward to more training next week with TK and St John. Thanks to everyone.
Sorry not up to normal match report standard – Bobby will be back on the sidelines for the next match!
