In the last game of the season the match kicked off in front of a large crowd. This was bolstered by the Eastleigh first fifteen squad who’s match had been cancelled and who offered great support both on and off the pitch.
Eastleigh started well with a steady build up of points to take a thirteen nil lead within twenty minutes of kick off following two penalties and an unconverted try. However, we started to get the hang of the very narrow pitch and Rufus Wallis closed the gap with an unconverted try.
As the break approached James Hirst brought us to within one with a brilliant try converted by Mark Hammond and as the teams turned for the break it could not be closer at thirteen twelve to Eastleigh.
Ten minutes into the second half Mark Hammond touched down for a try of his own which he converted to give us the lead for the first time in the match.
Our pack did very well against the much heavier home side but eventually constant pressure resulted in in two more tries for Eastleigh to round out the game twenty nine points to nineteen winners.
Lock Harry Northway was awarded man of the match. In his last match as Captain Harry Hitchings thanked the team and the support for a great season.
Our congratulations go to Basingstoke who finished the season unbeaten winning all twenty two of their matches. With play off’s still to come it is not quite certain yet what the final make up of the Hampshire Premier League will be next season but after finishing fourth we can certainly look forward to being there.
