Back to winning ways
Overton RFC had a painful visit to the Rec as we ran up a large score against them with the match finishing at 85 – 0 on an emotional afternoon for our club.
After a difficult week, we put on a fine display of attacking rugby against a struggling Overton side. Whilst the score was high the first half of the match was well fought and a relatively close encounter.
That said, we had secured the bonus win by the end of the first half with tries from Matt Maynard, a spectacular ‘Ash Splash’ from Man of the Match Harry Hitchings (the resulting ground shake causing a small tidal wave down the river!), Charlie Boyns and the returning Paddy Gogin on the stroke of half time. Mat Norton added two conversions and two penalties to give us a comfortable lead at the break of 30 – 0.
The second half saw the flood gates open as we scored a further, unanswered, fifty five points. A hat trick from Peter Scott, two from Dee Stone, another one each from Matt Maynard, Charlie Boyns and Paddy Gogin along with Keith Walsh scoring the last of the match completed the dismal afternoon for Overton. Despite the score line, they kept on pushing with determination but were no match for us on that particular afternoon.
