The squad turned up with an expectation of fielding one team in the tournament but ended up fulfilling all the matches for both the first team and second team (The Fordingbridge Jets). If nothing else it kept all the children interested and involved as regular substitutions were required to prevent tiredness influencing their play. Fordingbridge was drawn in the West Group. Ollie bolstered the squad and for one match Gosport supplied a player so that both first and second teams were able to fulfill a match at the same time

The first match was against Andover and the lack of playing together as a team was apparent in the performance as the Under 7s got used to playing in a match setting, used to the rules and getting used to playing with each other. Despite obvious enthusiasm the team lost 5 to 11 to a well drilled Andover team.

Following this the team achieved two draws against United Services. By this time the team were playing together well and all the children played their part in the results. The team performance improved throughout the round robin stage to finish with Played 8, won 3, drew 2 and lost 3.

Once the scores for the two teams were combined at the end of the round robin stage, the children were delighted to progress to the Spoon semi-finals for the third place team in the group having just edged out local rivals Ellingham and Ringwood.

In the semi-final the team met Trojans and produced the best performance of the day. By half-time the tie was won and Trojans staged a fighting comeback in the second half only for the Under 7s to hang on for the result. In the final the team met the Romsey Wasps who were well drilled and ran out deserved winners.

The day was a huge success and the children and parents thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The team spirit was very good and there appeared to be a renewed enthusiasm amongst all the children for the game. Throughout the day there was a healthy rivalry to be the top scorer on the day and the eventual top scorer was not decided until the final. All the children scored on the day but special mention to James as top try scorer with 24 tries.

Special thanks go to Rob who was our referee for the day and instrumental in the organisation leading up to the day. Thanks go to all parents for bringing the children, supporting the team and mucking in for the organisation and general good atmosphere on the day and further special thanks to Alicia for keeping scores.

Well done to Petersfield for running a great tournament and well played the children.
