Fordingbridge ladies represented the New Forerst Baa Baas to win for the third time in a row in the South Hampshire Ladies Touch Series.

Fordingbridge rugby club had the privilege of hosting the third round of this season’s South Hampshire Ladies Touch Series. Fordingbridge ladies stepped up to represent the New Forest Baa Baas team. The ladies faced the pressure of not only winning the first two events, but also the pressure of wanting to win at home.

Our first match was against the Tottonian Totties, which was a good warm up for the event, and much needed on rather cold and wet Sunday afternoon. The Baa Baas put up a brilliant defensive line, with the Totties not being able to get into our half in the first part of the match. The second half saw our first try by Lydia Parkinson, after a hard battle on the opposition’s try line, and sealed our first win of the day.

The second match, against Andover ladies, pushed us further, with us fighting on Andover’s try line a few times. The first half saw us pushing towards the opposition’s try line and some quick thinking by Georgie Price and Carla Lee saw Carla speed through the Andover defence, to score our second try of the day.

The third match for the New Forest Baa Baas brought us our most difficult match of the day. Fareham Heathen Hags had us running around and although we spent quite a bit of time on their try line, this was to no avail and one of their wingers broke through our defence and raced up the pitch in two instances, to see them beat us 2-0.

A great day was had by all and despite the wind and torrential rain the ladies left the pitch smiling. The New Forest Baa Baas won the event overall, resulting in a clean sweep so far in the touch series for the Baa Baas.

A lot of hard work went into making the day happen and a big thanks needs to go Fordingbridge rugby club committee for their support. A huge thank you goes to the referees (Martin and Matt Norton), our physiotherapist (Amy Davies) and, most of all, to the supporters for giving up their Sunday afternoons to come and stand/run! about in the pouring rain and cold. Finally, thanks to The Crown Inn for providing the much needed and warm post-match food.

Fordingbridge ladies are looking forward to the fourth event in the touch series, which will be held at Fareham Heathens on Sunday 17th March.
