Fordingbridge edge the win against two evenly matched teams

Sunday 15th September was the FRFC U15s first match of the season, meaning only one week to prepare the team, which was looking strong on Saturday but by match morning injuries, colds and a “chair” resulted in only 10 boys being available to play.

Lytchett had travelled to ‘Bridge with 14 so agreed to lend 2 players to play 12 a side, last season Fordingbridge had lent players to Lytchett.

The sun was shinning, Fordingbridge won the toss and elected to receive.

The game started at a blistering pace, ‘Bridge went straight into the attack making good yards eventually getting into the Lytchett 22 and coming away with the score.

From the start, ‘Bridge went 1 way and then the other making good yards again to score out wide

Then in the next 15mins was all about Lytchett. They were playing good attacking rugby not allowing bridge to rest. ’Bridge’s defensive line press was always putting pressure on the attack but the away teams break down work was really well drilled. Lytchett got in 2 tries taking the score to a level 10-10 before Bridge finished off the half much stronger getting 2 tries taking it to 22-10.

Second half again started off blistering. Lytchett scored straight from the re start with a text book try, a quick breakdown mid field and the ball spun wide for their number 8 to out pace the chasing defence of ‘Bridge To go on and score.

A mistake from the restart gave the ball back to Lytchett, with their scrum getting on top bridge who were feeling the pressure. Lytchett scored, making score 22-20

’Bridge then woke up after a mistake from Lytchett. The ball fell into a ‘Bridge defenders hands, he then had a 60m run to score, taking it to 29-20

The game was pretty even with both teams defence keeping strong, ‘Bridge eventually got into the 22. After some confusion, Lytchett let ‘Bridge go through a gap to score 34-20

Lychett again came back to score 34-25

Only 1 minute to play, Lytchett went straight on the attack to try and get within 2 points, unfortunately a forward pass meant ‘Bridge ended with a win 34-25

A huge thanks to Lytchett for lending us 2 players and to those players for making 2 try-saving tackles to help get the results

Games like these it feels unfair that there has to be a winner, a draw would of been a fitting result; the quality from both sides in defence and attack was a pleasure to watch.

Looking forward to the return fixture and maybe an extra fixture during the season
