'Bridge make tries while the sun shines

The game got off to a great start for 'Bridge with a quick try for debutant Bird Root, who outpaced the Winchester B defence to score in the corner. Tom Goodwin then adding the conversion. This was quickly followed by a touch down for Timmy Evans as he finished off a buccaneering run from No. 8 Dom Bowden-Smith. However, Winchester quickly hit back to get an excellent try of their own, their centre running over half the length of the sticky pitch to open their account.

The rest of the first half belonged to Fordingbridge, as tries from Jake Barry, Dom Bowden-Smith and the impressive Jack Griffiths followed, all a result of great work at the breakdown followed by fine running and passing rugby, despite the soggy ground and slippery ball. Tom Goodwin added another 2 conversions, kicking directly into the sun, including a notable long distance kick from out wide.

The second half followed the same pattern with Fordingbridge running in 5 tries to Winchester B's 1 with George O'Reilly, who had taken over the kicking responsibilities, adding another 3 conversions. Timmy Evans ended the day with 4 tries thanks to his trademark strong running and Bird Root increased his tally to 2 to cap a notable debut. Also getting onto the score sheet was Adam Hill, playing his first game as Hooker and barrelling over the line for his first of the season.

Credit must go to all the boys, who competed for every ball, both at set plays and at the breakdown. Once the ball was secured 'Bridge consistently attacked in numbers and there was always a support runner on hand to keep the move alive and produce some fine flowing rugby that brought a smile to the faces of both spectators and coaches alike.
