A landslide win for us against Gosport and Fareham II’s by 106 - 0
With three converted tries within eight minutes it was clear from the kick off that this match was going to be a one-sided affair. We were totally dominant from the minute one running in ten tries in the half with nine of them being converted by Jamie Tryska.
As we were in so much control all but one of the tries was scored under the posts meaning that the conversions were not too difficult. Peter Scott carried on his try scoring streak from last week with a further three in the half and with two from Joe Tooze and Dan Brown and one from Ross Bealey we were 68 – 0 up at half time and very much in the driving seat.
However, with severe availability issues for the afternoon and a weakened side, Gosport and Fareham did not let their heads or spirits drop during the match and began to take the game to us. Although they did not manage to score a try they did keep the count down to six in the second half against them, much to their credit.
In a similar fashion to the first half though, we dominated the match and Joe Tooze, Dan Brown and Mark Hammond scored in the second period to complete their hat tricks for the afternoon. With a try from Charlie Boyns the score was pushed on to 99 – 0 with four minutes to play. The last act of the match was Mat Norton scoring to take the score through the 100 barrier and after converting his own try the ref brought the game to an end at 106 – 0 to Fordingbridge and much to the relief of the visitors.
Whilst this was a very uneven game as the score suggests, Gosport and Fareham must be commended for the attitude and endeavour on what was obviously a very difficult afternoon for them.
We don’t play next week but travel to the Isle of Wight the week after for what should be a much closer game with Sandown and Shanklin who have won just one more game than us and are in second in the table immediately above us.
