A dominant second half seals the win for Fordingbridge against Alresford by 48 points to 24
As the winter arrived at the Rec, we welcomed Alresford for the first match of the season between the two sides.
The opening half of the game was very evenly matched and with three tries a piece the half time score could not be closer with the only difference being an extra conversion from us. It was in fact Fordingbridge who took the early lead when Peter Scott scored his first of five tries for the afternoon. Jamie Tryska added the extra two to get the scoreboard rolling.
Lead by their well drilled and disciplined pack Alresford managed to score two converted tries within the space of five minutes to establish a lead that they held for some considerable time in the half. However, Jamie Tryska touched down and adding the conversion to his own try, brought the scores level.
Two further tries followed before the half finished, one from Alresford which they did not convert and another from Peter Scott which was. So as the teams turned at the break we had the narrowest of margins at 21 – 19.
The second half was a completely different match with us outscoring the visitors by five tries to one. Our pack started coming to terms with the Alresford unit which in turn gave our swift backs the chance to run the tries in, and some superb tries there were. With slick handling and great running lines we began to assert ourselves in the match. A try apiece from Dan Brown and Joe Tooze and a further three from Peter Scott sealed the match in emphatic style in our favour. Although Alresford scored a try they could not match the pace of the Fordingbridge backs throughout the half.
After scoring five tries, Peter Scott was named Man of the Match, but overall it was an excellent team performance for the whole squad and moves us to third place in the Hampshire Premier League after Bognor Regis lost to Sandown and Shanklin. Next week we take on Gosport and Fareham at the Rec.
