We move up to second place in the Hampshire Premier league after beating Tottonians II’s by thirteen tries to one. It is fair to say that despite Totts never giving up it was a one-sided affair with us scoring more than a point a minute.
Before the match got underway Fordingbridge were welcomed on to the pitch with a very smart guard of honour from the Under 12's with their coaches, volunteers and parents.
It was a very entertaining match to watch with both sides playing good rugby. We just proved too much for the visitors to handle showing more desire to win and flare in our game.
The match was less than a quarter over when we achieved our bonus point try and the constant pace of the try scoring did not slow down. Peter Scott scored four tries in the first half setting out his stall to be the clubs highest try scorer again this year even after just two games. Ross Bealey and Jack Griffiths added to the first half tally of six tries to put the game out of reach of Totts.
On the stroke of half time Tottonians won a scrum on the five-metre line and a snipe around the blind side saw them score their only try of the match in the corner.
The second half was more or less a carbon copy of the first with tries from Peter Scott, Man of the Match Mark Hammond, newcomer Joe Tooze, two from Craig Stocker and one Ross Bealey and Tim Beer. Unfortunately following a slight ‘error’ in judgement Ross Bealey missed out on his hat trick for the afternoon but it did earn him an accolade in the bar afterwards!
After missing the first match of the season, Mat Norton returned to the side to convert eight of the tries and one penalty to bring the final score to eighty four points.
We have drawn the first three matches of our campaign at home this year and Captain Harry Hitchings urged the side to maintain this level of intensity through to next week against Millbrook and then onto our first away game at Basingstoke.
With Sandown and Shanklin II’s having to concede their match against the II’s a friendly was arranged with Eastleigh III’s. A good win for us running out 38 – 10 winners kept the spirits high at the club with tries from Joe Madgwick 2, Ryan Hill, Stuart Fisher, captain Matt Randall and Man of the Match George Timms.
