Fordingbridge RFC host Chobham RFC and Ellingham & Ringwood RFC in Tri-Tournament

Friday 15th March 2019 saw Chobham RFC return to Fordingbridge for the third time, bringing their U9s, U10s, U11 boys and U11s girls, also being joined by Ellingham & Ringwood RFC players across those age groups. Due to the weather forecast and pitch conditions the decision had to be made on the Wednesday that the pitches at Fordingbridge Recreation Ground were not suitable for the event to take place on. To ensure the event still went ahead alternative pitches were found at Forres Sandle Manor School and Burgate School. We are very lucky and grateful that both schools were able to accommodate us at such short notice and had such great facilities for us to play on.

The Under 9s and Under 10s were playing at Burgate School and the Under 11s boys and girls were playing at Forres Sandle Manor. Unfortunately, Chobham were delayed in getting to the sites due to poor traffic conditions on the M3. This meant that the start of play was delayed by nearly half an hour in some age groups. We were competing against the light and had 146 children keen to play some rugby, which they did, in style! All of the children had great fun playing against each other and the coaches and referees entered into the fun spirit of the evening.

Chobham were a pleasure to host and we were very proud of the behaviour of our own players at FRFC and ERRFC. Chobham coaches commented on how well our children played and conducted themselves.

At 6:20pm the decision had to be made to finish play due to losing the light and so everyone decamped to Fordingbridge Sports Club where a gorgeous spread of food was put on by the Bat and Ball and the bar was full of parents and coaches of all sides.

Colin Hall, the Chobham RFC Minis Tour Chairman, made a presentation of a tour plaque to the FRFC Minis Chairman, Charlotte Fairbairn, and thanked us for organising such a great event.

A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who made this event possible. Despite all the hurdles we encountered, we managed to make it happen and lots of children got to play some fun rugby, which is ultimately what we wanted to achieve. Thank you to our coaches, co-ordinators, Vice Presidents and parents who helped make the event run smoothly.
