Press Release - Rob Burrows
Outstanding in the game was the 17-year-old scrum-half Chris Gogin, who was making his first “start” for the club and who scored the first try after Mark Hammond had put Bridge in front with two early penalties. Wheatsheaf hit back with a penalty and a converted try but Hammond kicked a third penalty for Bridge to lead 14-10 at half-time.
Hammond also scored a try in the second half, which he converted, and after kicking a fourth penalty, he converted tries by Jon Vass and Sean Gorman to bring his personal tally to 18 points. Wheatsheaf scored a second try near the end but it was a case of too little too late.
There is another “double-header” at The Rec on Saturday with the Fordingbridge 2nd XV at home to East Dorset in the Dorset & Wilts 2 South League, while the 1st XV entertain Ventnor.
