Trojans 3rd XV v Fordingbridge 2nd XV
Fordingbridge travelled to Trojans for their final warm up game before their first home league fixture against South Wilts next week.
In very muggy conditions Bridge only had 15 players and some had to play out of position. Captained by Jamie Waters he led by example scoring the opening try after 5min with an excellent solo run from 30m out. 0 -5
Trojans pack were a very strong well disciplined unit and levelled the score on 11min driving a maul over from 10m out. 5-5
5minutes later Jamie Waters went over for his second try converted by Dean Lewis 5 -12.
On 25 mins Mark Price playing at no.8 scored a strong solo effort putting Bridge ahead 5 -17
Trojans forwards made strong work from a penalty on 35mins to drive a maul over again. Trojans 10 converted well from 5m from the touch line. Half time 12 – 17.
Bridge conceded a penalty from the second half kick off. Kicking deep for touch. From the subsequent line out as expected the catch and drive sent their forwards over and the converted try put the home side ahead for the first time 19- 17.
Some very strong defending by Bridge kept Trojans out.
25 mins into the half Mark Price went over for his second of the afternoon converted by Dean Lewis Bridge were back in front 19 – 24.
With just 5min remaining Trojans big no. 4 showed his backs how to score running a strong line to score between the posts. Converted and the home side were ahead 26- 24.
With just 2 min remaining Bridge dug deep and got the ball out to the backs and Jamie Waters fed the ball out for Dean Lewis to run in the try of the day.
Controversially the referee did not award Dean Lewis conversion although everyone including Trojans said it was over.
Nevertheless 26-29 and Bridge came away with a very well earned and deserved victory.
Mark Price was awarded man of the match but all 15 players gave 110% to cap off a great win.
