With league opponent's Verwood crying off late on Friday evening we entertained Andover 2/3's in a friendly and earned a deserved victory 27 - 24.

A hastily arranged fixture turned out to be a good call for players and spectators alike.

Andover opened the scoring after 6 minutes with a try under the posts which was easily converted. Keith Walsh responded for 'bridge after 10 minutes bursting through to beat the Andover defence. The Andover left winger scored the first of 2 tries after 14 minutes showing both pace and agility to score a very good try which was converted. Following a 'bridge lineout after 35 minutes Callum Butler gained possession in midfield and with four Andover players in pursuit scored in the corner to bring the score back to 14-10.

Andover's left winger scored his second try with another defence splitting run which was again converted. Shortly before half time Andover were award a penalty which was converted. The half time score was Fordingbridge 10 Andover 24.

The second period did not start well for 'bridge with Lewis Bracey receiving a yellow card 2 minutes after coming on at half time.

Fordingbridge gained the upper hand in the scrums in the second period following some changes to personnel. Josh Goodchild and James Suswain were increasingingly receiving the ball going forward from both scrum and lineout. Matt Vass won clean possession in nearly every lineout, but Andover's defence remained resilient and stubborn.

It appeared that Josh Goodchild was to score under the posts from a pass by Dean Lewis, but the referee ruled the pass to be forward. Eventually Fordingbridge's pressure told and Callum Butler scored under the posts and Dean Lewis converted. Following some powerful forward play with Matt Vass, Phil Collier and Keith Walsh softening up the Andover defence Callum Butler crossed the line for his hatrick. Dean Lewis was struggling after a knock and handed over the kicking duties to Callum who duly converted.

The score was now level at 24 all. With a couple of minutes remaining Andover conceded a penalty on their own 22 metre line and Callum converted.

Fordingbridge 27 Andover 24.
