Great performance by Fordingbridge

After loosing the league by 1 point to Portsmouth last year Fordingbridge were keen to make sure of a good result away.
A record 21 players travelled away by coach for this eagerly awaited fixture.
Having met for a friendly earlier in the season when Fordingbridge recorded a sound win the squad were keen to make sure the result went our way.

Despite Portmouth scoring an early penalty Fordingbridge looked in control from the start. An early try by Billy Shearing in the 6th minute put Fordingbridge in the lead.
After some fierce exchanges Fordingbridge scored again in 17th minute through a strong run by Mark Hill. Conversion by Tom Goodwin.
Fordingbridge continued to attack hard and the Portsmouth defence finally cracked again on 34 minutes as James Hirst went over. Again Tom Goodwin added the extras and Fordingbridge had a healthy lead at half time.

Coming out after half time Jack Griffiths scored a quick try from a fumbled Portsmouth ball and again Tom converted.
From here Portsmouth rallied a little, managed a forwards try after a period of sustained pressure but there hopes were dashed in the 65th minute when James Hirst went over again and Dicken Westlake slotted the conversion.

Final score 8-33 in favour of Fordingbridge.

A good team performance from the Colts showing lots of promise for the future.
